SMI

CATGUT Chrom

Sutures & wound closure

CATGUT Chrom is an absorbable suture of purified bovine serosal collagen tanned with chrome salts (from BSE-free classified countries), twisted into a multifilament with a monofilament appearance, manufactured by SMI. It is absorbed by phagocytosis; chromizing slows absorption, which is complete in about 90 days, and about 50% of tensile strength remains after 14 days. Absorption is faster in infected tissue or tissue with high proteolytic activity. SMI indicates it for general soft-tissue approximation and/or ligation. SMI lists cardiovascular surgery and neurosurgery as contraindications. It is supplied 12 sutures per box in the sizes, needles and lengths of the SMI catalogue; contact Meditech for the size chart and current availability. SMI AG (St. Vith, Belgium) has manufactured surgical sutures since 1987 and exports to 120 countries. Meditech supplies the SMI range in Armenia.
